SHOWERS is now a Gold Level Community Partner with the Department of Children’s ACCESS Program. Members and visitors are encouraged to apply for Food Stamps, Medicaid, and Cash Assistance right here at Showers. 

Relative Caregiver Program

Children who are placed with a relative (grandmother, auntie, uncle, etc) by the Department of Children and Families or a contracted agency may be eligible for a cash payment through the Relative Caregiver program. This program is an alternative to Foster Care, and has a higher payment standard than regular Temporary Cash Assistance. If a relative is interested in finding out more about this program, have them contact their placement worker, or call the Customer Call Center to state they want to have this program evaluated. Payments per child based on the age of the child are

Registration for the FREE Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten program for all 4
year olds begins at the VPK Fair at the Oaks Mall on March 22nd, 2008 from 10am-2pm. 

Parents- simply bring your child's proof of birth, proof of
Alachua Co. residence (eg. GRU Bill, insurance statement) and photo ID to register!

ELC is now accepting applications for financial assistance for child care
for children ages birth to five years old. Please call 352-375-4110 to make an appointment or to see if you qualify.

Medicaid and Cash Assistance Applications
Effective February 1, 2008
A new application is not required when Temporary Cash Assistance applicants, denied for not returning pending information after an interview, return all requested information by close of business on the 60th day from the original application date. For applicants and recipients, the new date of application is the date the Department receives all requested information.

Florida KidCare is our state’s children’s health insurance program for uninsured children under age 19.  Eligibility for Florida KidCare is based on your child’s age and family income.

EMPLOYMENT CORNER
Funding Available for Employed Worker Training at Florida Works. Grant funding is available to cover the costs of short-term training programs for people who are employed and earning under 200% of poverty, and also have dependents or are paying child support.  This grant ends on June 30, so workers are encouraged to contact FloridaWorks right away if they are interested in upgrading their computer skills or taking any other training course that will improve their work skills.  See for details.
